We are excited to share the launch of the Redgate Primary Academy garden project, now proudly named “Redgate grow and bloom” following a vote by our enthusiastic pupils. This initiative is being driven by oak class, who are transforming part of our school grounds into a thriving garden where plants and vegetables can flourish.
To kick-start the project, our children hosted a tuck shop, selling sweets and cakes. Their efforts raised an impressive £78.10, which will be used to purchase bulbs, seeds, plants, and essential gardening equipment.
Our children have taken the lead in deciding what to plant. They have already planted pumpkin seeds, which they will nurture and grow for carving in October as part of our Halloween celebrations. After carving, they will replant the seeds to understand the entire growth process. Additionally, they are growing potatoes and carrots, which they plan to harvest and enjoy as snacks.
This project is closely tied to their curriculum, focusing on science and life skills. Through hands-on experience, the children will learn about the entire lifecycle of plants—from planting and nurturing to harvesting and eating their crops.
Not stopping there, the children have repurposed an area of the school grounds. They have crafted a beautiful flower planter at the academy entrance using old railway sleepers that were once part of an old sandpit. This creative touch has made our entrance look more inviting and attractive for visitors.
To ensure the continued success of Redgate Grow and Bloom, We are now reaching out to local businesses for donations of tools, plants, seeds, compost, or funds to support the ongoing project. Any contributions will help our children continue their hands-on learning experiences, and will create a vibrant space for learning and growth.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support of our academy and the enriching experiences we strive to provide for our children. If you would like to make a donation please contact Redgate Primary Academy via email office@redgateprimary-ac.org.uk or call 01623 455944.
