Diverse Academies’ longest-serving midday supervisor has celebrated her 70th birthday.

Ann Cantrell started work at Redgate Primary in 1986 and has built up an impressive 34 years of service at the academy. Valued highly by the children and her colleagues, she was overjoyed to receive a bouquet of flowers and a balloon to mark her special birthday.

She might be 70 but Ann still travels to work every day on her moped and she has no plans to stop working yet. Living just 10 minutes away from the academy in Mansfield, Ann looks forward to coming into work to look after the children at lunchtime.

She said: “The children are the best part of the job for me. You get to meet a lot of lovely children and it’s a nice feeling when they give you a wave and a smile – it’s wonderful. ”

To celebrate her birthday Ann visited Highclere Castle in Newbury, famous for being the setting of much-loved television series, Downton Abbey. Along with her friend, Ann was given a tour of the castle, including the familiar state rooms from the TV drama.
