We have enjoyed a special RE theme day celebrating Buddha’s birthday as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. The day gave us an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and focus on values that support wellbeing and positive relationships.

Throughout the day, we explored the importance of calmness, kindness, and gentleness through a variety of thoughtful activities. It was wonderful to see these values reflected in the way we worked and interacted with one another.

We took part in breathing exercises and gentle mindful movement activities that helped us relax and regulate our emotions. We also enjoyed a peaceful ten-minute meditation session, which many of us found calming and enjoyable.

Creativity played an important role during the day. Using Buddha silhouettes and coloured sand, we carefully brushed away the sand to reveal beautiful patterns underneath. We also used play dough to create our own Buddha models and enjoyed colouring mindful pictures. Another highlight was making floating lanterns, which allowed us to express ourselves creatively while learning more about the significance of Buddha’s birthday.
